Tourism hopes after Arab Spring
The Arab world, which recently witnessed a fall in visitor numbers due to a wave of demonstrations and protests, is trying to bounce back by launching a new tourist drive.
Of the affected countries, Egypt and Tunisia have started campaigns in a bid to boost tourist arrival numbers.
The initiatives were mentioned in a global trends report by market analyst Euromonitor International as part of the World Travel Market (WTM) that opened in London.
In order to emphasise that the country will ensure the visitors’ safety, Egypt has even used the slogan: “Welcome to the country of peaceful revolution.”
However, holidaymakers would be well advised to take out a good
travel insurance before heading to the countries affected by Arab Spring.
Fiona Jeffery, chairman of WTM said: “The speed at which the marketing campaigns have been launched demonstrates the importance the new democracies in Egypt and Tunisia have put on inbound tourism for their long-term economic future.
“Tourism can help build up these countries’ new democracies and has the potential to do so across all the Arab Spring countries.”
