The Junta de Andalucia is reported to have informed the Town Hall in Almunecar that it must rescind the building licence granted by the previous local government for The Bahía Fenicia Hotel in Penon del Lobo which is Spain’s first 7 star hotel.
Although the project was previously approved, it now seems that its passing violates legislation as it should have been approved by the Junta’s tourism department before the building licence was granted. It is understood that the building licence was awarded on May 18th which is two days before the Town Hall was informed of tourism’s negative report for the project.
The Bahia Fenicia Hotel, from Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts was to be built on a site of more than 13,000 square metres with a further 32,428 square metres to be used for residential housing. Phase I was due to open in 2013.
